Construction and Ice

Posted by Sharon

Within the past few weeks, the construction crews have finished putting the new metal roofs on all the cabins and are now putting the siding on.  They have finished the Chippewa and Chickasaw cabins and are now working on Cherokee Hill.  They will eventually paint the cabins the same color as the new cabins added last year.  Most the electrical and plumbing has been completed.  They have slowed down a little because of the cold weather and all the snow.  But they are still moving forward!

We’ve decided to keep a section open in each cabin so you can see old signatures from the past.  Here’s what it will look like.

I know all you Floridians have been experiencing some cold weather recently.  We are excited about next week because the weather channel is saying the temperature may actually reach 40 degrees!  There is still quite a bit of snow left from the storm 3 weeks ago and the lakes are freezing over.  It is unusual to see the Crestridge lake frozen because there usually isn’t any water in there.  So savor these next few pictures!

Check back soon for more updates!  Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!

  1. I knew the lake would freeze!! :)It looks beautiful…

I LOVE the idea for keeping some of the wall open. That way the signatures are still there, at least a few. It saves that crestridge feel.

Those guys are amazing and dedicated to work in this cold!! (I only live four hours away from camp, so the weather is similar.)

    great job!!

  2. For the part of the old wall that you guys are leaving open, is it going to be covered? or are new people going to be able to write on it too? Everything looks great.

  3. Great question Mary! We are looking into covering it with something clear so no one will be able to write over the signatures but you can still see them. We’ll see what happens.

  4. I wish we could ice skate on it! That would be so fun! But unfortunately we can’t though because the ice isn’t thick enough.

  5. Yeah I went out yesterday and it was so much warmer! The snow missed us by about 20 minutes 🙁
    But Camp looks really pretty!
And I’m glad that yall decided to leave a piece of history in the cabins!I can just pretend I’m writing on the walls or something like that! 🙂

  6. I’m not too sure how Arko and Hobo are doing, but OJ is great. He comes to camp with me everyday still, so he has a good time. He’s a great dog!

  7. I love that you are keeping a space. It wouldn’t be camp without writing on the wall. I wish that they were the colors of the villages but oh well. I can’t wait to get back to camp to see the new cabins. I had an old cabin last year so I haven’t been in a new cabin yet.
