Another Snowy Day in Ridgecrest

Posted by Sharon

Once again Jack Frost himself has covered our lovely camp with white snow.  This time we received about 6 inches of the white fluffy stuff and are truly enjoying it to the fullest.  Here are some pictures of your home away from home covered in snow:

Also, even through the cold winter days our construction crews are moving along with enthusiasm.  All of the Cheyenne and Choctaw cabins have their siding up, and the Cherokee cabins are getting their new inside walls.  Cherokee 25 seems like a completely new building with a higher ceiling and open floor plans- these changes are so exciting!  Here are a few pictures to show the updated construction with more to come soon.

Construction and Ice

Posted by Sharon

Within the past few weeks, the construction crews have finished putting the new metal roofs on all the cabins and are now putting the siding on.  They have finished the Chippewa and Chickasaw cabins and are now working on Cherokee Hill.  They will eventually paint the cabins the same color as the new cabins added last year.  Most the electrical and plumbing has been completed.  They have slowed down a little because of the cold weather and all the snow.  But they are still moving forward!

We’ve decided to keep a section open in each cabin so you can see old signatures from the past.  Here’s what it will look like.

I know all you Floridians have been experiencing some cold weather recently.  We are excited about next week because the weather channel is saying the temperature may actually reach 40 degrees!  There is still quite a bit of snow left from the storm 3 weeks ago and the lakes are freezing over.  It is unusual to see the Crestridge lake frozen because there usually isn’t any water in there.  So savor these next few pictures!

Check back soon for more updates!  Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Christmas Time is Here

Posted by Sharon

Greetings from Ridgecrest Summer Camps!  I hope you were able to read our last blog about the Snow Storm here at camp.  By the time the snow ended, we had over a foot of snow!  It was absolutely beautiful!  Not much has melted so we are still enjoying the remnants.

Well, it’s Christmas time and we’d like to bring you another Norman Rockwell Christmas card.  Thank you Wayne for your talent and inspiration.

We hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Winter Storm at Camp

Posted by Sharon

It is currently cold and snowing here at camp!  There is a big system moving up through the Southeast and because it’s below freezing, we are getting all snow!  There may be an inch on the ground right now, but they are calling for over 8 inches!   We took a drive over to Crestridge so we could show what it looks like under snow.

I wish you all could be here right now enjoying a good snowball fight or even playing 4-square!   We hope you enjoy your Friday, whether it’s in the sun, rain, or snow!

Fun in the snow

Posted by Karah

All work and no play makes camp a pretty dull place.  Thankfully we know how to play here at camp.  Since it doesn’t really snow here that often, we take full advantage of it when it does!  So yesterday Sharon and I decided to build a snowman before everything melted away.  Check out the pics below to see our new friend.

Of course once Stewart, the boys camp intern, saw what we were doing he had to come out and one up us.  He built his own snowman to tower over ours.

Okay, I know what you may be thinking, “How come Stewart’s snowman is so much bigger?”  Before you go thinking that Sharon and I were just lazy and didn’t want to take the time to build a bigger snow buddy, check this out…

Who’s the lazy one now?

We’re not sure what to name them.  Any suggestions?

In Like a Lion…

Posted by Karah

So you know that old weather proverb about March, “In like a lion, out like a lamb”?  Well, for us here at camp, March certainly roared its head!  On Sunday, March 1st, it snowed on and off all day.  At camp, we had around 3 inches.  Now I know 3 inches may not sound like a lot to some of you, but let me tell you, for this Texas girl it was a little taste of Heaven!  And at Sharon’s home there was around 8 inches!  Needless to say, she had a snow day yesterday while others of us were in the office.

I walked around parts of camp yesterday and took some pics since you all couldn’t be here to see it with us…enjoy!

That’s how it looked at camp, now check out how it looked at Sharon’s!

Oj sure loved playing in all that snow!  We even made some snowmen at camp…but that’s another post for another day!

A Snowy Day at Camp

Posted by Sharon

We had our first snowfall this morning and it’s only October 28th!  We are hoping this is a sign that we’ll have a cold, snowy winter.  Well, it started snowing (in Swannanoa) around 10PM last night.  Then I awoke to a blanket of snow covering the ground.  As I was driving to work, I had my ipod on shuffle and a Christmas song came on.  There’s something you should know about me.  I love the Christmas season, cold weather and especially listening to Christmas music.  When the song came on, I was like a little kid again because the snow and music reminded me that Christmas is almost here!  Anyways, the snow continued till about 11AM.  Abby and I went over to Crestridge to take pictures so you can see what camp looks like with snow.

Abby was getting a little too crazy with the snow!  As you can see, the snow didn’t accumulate to much, but we still enjoyed it!  When we get more snow, we’ll be sure to take good pictures for you.  Check out the Ridgecrest blog to see pictures at boys camp!
