Greetings from Ridgecrest Summer Camps! I hope you were able to read our last blog about the Snow Storm here at camp. By the time the snow ended, we had over a foot of snow! It was absolutely beautiful! Not much has melted so we are still enjoying the remnants.
Well, it’s Christmas time and we’d like to bring you another Norman Rockwell Christmas card. Thank you Wayne for your talent and inspiration.
We hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Last week I uploaded a couple clips showing some new skill options for camp. Of course, when we thought of these skills it was in the middle of winter so they would really only work if camp stayed open year round. Even though that’s not going to happen anytime soon, it was still fun playing outside in the cold and icy weather.
These two clips are a couple more options for new skills that we came up with. The first one is a type of strongman competition. Instead of a log or caber toss, how about an ice toss? The person who can carry the biggest slab of ice and throw it the farthest wins.
Hayne, one of our local go-to guys, wins this round. For those of you might want to try this at home, wear gloves! Hayne’s hands were freezing and remember…safety first!
Now watch the boys intern, Stewart, try and make his way across the frozen lake in a canoe.
For those keeping a tally sheet, that makes:
1. Ice Fishing
2. Ice Disc Golf
3. Ice Throwing
4. Ice Canoeing
Which was your favorite?
If you’re part of our facebook fan page, then you know that we’ve asked campers and staff what new skills they’d like to see this summer. (If you’re on facebook and not a fan of the camp, then you need to be!). The following clips are suggestions from us on what the new skills should be. Watch the clips and tell us what you think.
And as you know, we here at Ridgecrest Summer Camps are all about safety first, so it would be the counselors who would cut the holes with the chainsaws…just as Stewart demonstrated.
How about Ron’s throwing arm?!?! He might even be available to lead this skill if buttered up enough!
Okay, so you’ve probably figured out that these skills wouldn’t be plausible for the summer. Back in January we had some really cold days where the lake froze over (about 4 inches thick) and we just had to take advantage of that since it doesn’t happen often! What you watched is some of the crazy fun antics we here in the office came up with. Check back next week to see a couple other clips of how we had fun with the ice and cold weather.
So hopefully you’ve been keeping up with the posts and have watched some of the other videos. Remember how the Choctaw relay race and clue night started it all? If you have no idea what I’m talking about, then read some of the older posts and catch up on the video clips…you won’t be sorry. Well, these two clips finish it off for those from summer 2008. Now don’t worry, we’ll still be posting pictures from around camp and short videos of other various things.
This first clip is from a dance-off held over the summer. The two campers featured here aren’t afraid to be in front of a crowd!
As for this clip, there is so much that I want to say about it, but mere words won’t do it justice. Let’s just say that during staff week some people find themselves taking one for the team!
I don’t know about you, but I’m kinda hungry now!
Yep, it’s that time again to sit back, relax and enjoy this week’s picks for the funniest videos!
This first clip is country western night session 2b. Our resident clown for the night was having lots of fun acting the part of the clown…at least we think she was acting! The second clip is during mud pit time at starter camp. One particular staff member needed a little coaxing from others to get good and muddy. And some of our other staff being the kind, generous, accommodating girls they are had no problem helping with the task at hand!
Watch the clips below to enjoy more summer memories.
The new year has arrived and I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas season! I headed up north for a couple weeks where I was met with snow and ice while Sharon headed south to warmer weather and swam with manatees. But now it’s the new year and that means some of you will be heading back to school while others will be getting back into the routine of things at work. And the new year also brings…new video clips!!
The first clip below shows how important the weeks leading up to camp are. Cleaning, cleaning and more cleaning is needed, and done, before camp is ready for all you staff and campers. The staff are never quite sure what they’ll find in the cabins when first arriving!
The second video is a short clip from one of the Choctaw activities…slippery twister is just like it sounds…slippery.
Keep checking back for more fun video footage!
All right, as promised here is the second installment of video clips. Some of the sockwar skit did make it onto the session video, but this is a short raw and uncut director’s version, as I like to call it. The staff never know what we’ll have them do during the skit so it’s always funny to see how it all plays out. And needless to say, they didn’t disappoint during this session! As for the other clip, there was a long line waiting to begin play at Shadowbrook so I asked various cabins to sing a little something something for me and this was one result. Tune is next week for more clips…enjoy!!
Okay, so these clips may not be the funniest, but they will make you laugh…or smirk a bit…or at the very least smile a little. Over the next few weeks I’ll be adding various video clips from throughout the summer. Some of them you may remember seeing parts of on session videos, but mostly these will be things that didn’t make it onto the summer videos for one reason or another. Check back each week for these hidden treasures. These two are from session 1a and 2a…sit back and enjoy!!
