Crestridge Singspiration

Singspiration is something that is unique to Crestridge.  It’s basically a big dance party with all of camp only to songs that have been used throughout the history of Crestridge.  Most of the songs we sing are from the mid-90’s until now.  We sing songs, dance to them, share favorite Bible verses, and others may perform a song they may have written or they really like.  We have Singspiration every Sunday night and it’s a favorite!

Help a Kid Become a Camper

Could there be anything better to give than the chance for a child to have a life changing experience at camp? We believe that this is perhaps the best way for you to give your resources. Ridgecrest Summer Camps is committed to continuing to give away about $80,000 in scholarships each year. Currently we receive maybe half that amount in donations. We need to close that gap! Please consider giving so that we can continue to offer financial aid to campers in need.

1B Newspaper Party

Who would have ever thought you could have so much fun with newspapers?  Well, here at Crestridge, we’ve found a way!  We play different games such as Word Search, Tallest Tower, Smallest Pile, Look-a-Like Contest, Stuff Your Counselor, Hide your Village, Snowball Fight, and more!  We haven’t played this game in a while, but decided to bring it back for a Campwide Activity.

Night of Chaos

This past Monday night’s campwide activity was Night of Chaos.  The campers and staff ran around trying to complete different tasks such as giving their counselor a hairdo with shaving cream, dumping a bucket of water on someone, feeding birthday cake to a cabin mate, transferring cotton balls from one bucket to another using only your nose and Vaseline, and much more.  It’s such a great activity and the campers and staff love it!  Here’s our first Vlog of 2010:

Maintain the Memories

Each summer, the Alumnae of Camp Crestridge come together for a weekend and clean camp like crazy.  They come in on a Friday night, eat dinner and fellowship, then work all day Saturday painting, raking, spreading mulch, cleaning, etc.  They finish the day with a beautiful campfire.  Then on Sunday, they have Chapel and say their goodbyes.  It’s really a mini Reunion so you don’t have to wait 5 years to come back to camp.  We are so grateful for the work they do because it allows us to have more training time during Staff Week instead of spending the whole week to clean camp.

BRING YOUR TOOLS AND GLOVES, WEAR YOUR GRUBBIES AND PREPARE TO BE A PART OF SPRUCING UP CAMP. LODGING IS AT THE CONFERENCE CENTER AND THEY HAVE GIVEN US A RATE OF $35 A NIGHT PER ROOM.
We are feeding you Friday night off the grill at camp. FREE MEALS at the Conference Center. Pizza lunch in the camp dining hall on Saturday-when was the last time you got to eat in the dining hall?? (We will purchase your meal ticket for Saturday and Sunday.) Remember, mileage, meals and lodging are tax deductible.

SCHOLARSHIP UPDATE We are only $4,000 short of the 2010 goal. Don’t miss the chance to make a difference in a girl’s life. April’s Free Store Winner!

We want to send out a big Congratulations to this month’s Free Store Winner- Keller Anderson.  Because of Keller’s wonderful commenting she will be munching on some yummy Peanut Butter M&Ms and washing them down with a cool, refreshing swig of Cheerwine- nothing will get you excited about summer quite like that! Keller is so excited about coming back to camp to reunite with some old counselors and friends, as well as see all the new cabins!

Keller will be enjoying life as a Choctaw this summer, and we cannot wait for her and the rest of you to get here!  Remember if you want to receive a Free Store in the mail, all you have to do is comment and your name goes into the drawing.  Summer is approaching quickly, are you getting excited?

Dodgeball is Making a Comeback

As you know Seth, Kathleen and Wayne have been our interns throughout this off season.  They don’t stay at camp 24/7 despite what some of you may think.  They like to get out in the community and participate in random events.  One thing we were apart of this Spring is the Black Mountain Dodgeball League.  We played 1 day a week for 6 weeks and played against other teams made up of Black Mountain citizens.  It was so much fun to get out and feel like we were kids again!  We ended the season with a tournament in which we took some video clips.  Take a look!

We actually never won a game which became a running joke, but it was such a fun season!  We’ll get ’em in the fall!

Spring Time and Paint

It’s finally Springtime here at Crestridge, all the flowers are blooming, the sky is especially blue, and the only thing missing is all of your smiling faces!  Our construction crews are finishing up the little details to the cabins which included the painting of the outside walls.  Everything looks so fresh and it sure is getting us pumped up about spending the summer with all of you, so get here already!  Here are some pictures of Crestridge in the Springtime, enjoy!

March’s Free Store Winner!

The Big Winner for our March Free Store Drawing is none other than Allison Bunce!  Thanks to Allison’s comments on our Blog she will be receiving her very favorite Store choices: a Hershy’s Bar and Pibb Extra, in the mail soon!  We hope this little snack will hold you over until you can get to camp this summer and enjoy it on a daily basis.  Allison will be coming back this summer to the mighty Choctaw Village and enjoy her favorite skill: Choir!

Your Summer Staff 2010

A lot of you have been asking about our Summer Staff lately, so to make things easier here’s a list of those wonderful staffers who are making their way back to Crestridge this upcoming summer:
