Fully Covered Decks

Posted by Sharon

It seems that soon after we give an update, a lot more gets finished the next day.  As of now, all the Chippewa and Chickasaw cabins have new roofs, new decks, and the new bathrooms framed.  They are looking great!  The decks are fully covered which makes them look even bigger.  They have put the new showers in the cabins and also started on the plumbing in Chippewa 1.  Check out the new pictures:

Chickasaw 4 Chickasaw 5 Chickasaw 7

Chickasaw 8 Chickasaw 9 Chippewa 1 Bathrooms

I’m not sure if you can notice any of the leaves in the background, but they sure are beautiful.  I think the color is almost at it’s peak.  It’s a great time to be in the mountains!

Moving Right along

Posted by Sharon

Almost two weeks ago, I informed you of the cabin renovations that had just started.  Well today, they are working on their 6th possibly 7th cabin (Chip 1, 2, 3, Chick 4, 8, and 9).  The construction crew has not completely finished one cabin, but they have started putting the new roof on and framed the new bathrooms.  Take a look at the progress so far:

Chippewa 2 Chippewa 1 Roof Chippewa 1 New Bathrooms

Chippewa 1 Old Bathrooms Chippewa 3 and Chickasaw 4 Chickasaw 8

With taking out the roofs and bathrooms, there is a lot of trash.  It’s pretty funny to see all the toilets, showers and sinks all piled up around the Dining Hall.

When the crew gets to the Cheyenne and Choctaw cabins, they will extend the cabins.  They’ve already cleared a few trees and poured the footers for the extensions.

If you are interested in seeing more pictures, we have a Facebook Fan page that has an album designated for Cabin Renovation pictures.  Keep checking weekly for more updates on construction and other things going on at camp!

Off Season=Construction

Posted by Sharon

New CabinThis is our second year to do major construction at Crestridge.  During the off season, our goal is to renovate the existing cabins.  What a huge and exciting project!  Starting within the next couple weeks, there will be a construction crew coming in to clear some land behind the Cheyenne and Choctaw cabins so they can extend the cabins.  Then for every cabin they will replace all the floors, then the roofs, then onto moving the bathrooms, then building new decks and more.  Eventually, all the existing cabins will look like the new ones we had this past summer.  The cool thing is that we are not tearing the walls down but building around them.  Unfortunately you will not be able to sign on the new walls, but the heart of the cabin will remain. We will be sure to post videos and pictures of the construction to show you the progress.

Still More Construction

Posted by Karah

Did you think all the construction for the summer was finished?  Well, not quite yet. We still have a few minor things left to build before the summer gets underway.  One of those projects is a NEW ZIPLINE TOWER!  The blob tower is new (2007 anyway) and we thought it only fair to rebuild the zipline tower.  Check out the progress so far:

Keep checking back because you never know what will get built next!

Video Tours of New Buildings

Posted by Karah

Hopefully you’ve been keeping up with the posts on the new cabins, Bear Trap and dining hall.  You’ve seen the latest pictures and are up to date on the news.  Well, now we wanted to give you a 360 video tour of the buildings.  The first clip is one of the new camper cabins.  Everything is done, now it’s just waiting to be used by campers and staff.

The next couple clips are of the Bear Trap.  The first one shows the downstairs offices.  There’s a lot more organizing that’ll be done (both downstairs and upstairs) before everyone arrives, but you’ll get a feel for the place from the videos.  During the summer, campers and staff can go in and out as needed on the this floor.

This shows the upstairs on the Bear Trap.  It’ll house the staff lounge and VD office and because of that, only staff will be allowed upstairs during the summer.

And finally, a short clip of the dining hall with its new floor.  It’ll look much different in a few short weeks.  All of the tables and chairs will be moved back inside ready for mealtimes.

For those of you new to Crestridge, hopefully this will help you feel more familiar with the place on opening day.  For you returning campers, I hope this makes you even more excited to be at Crestridge this summer!

Paving a New Way

Posted by Karah

So much is happening during this off season.  The big things of course are the new cabins, the new Bear Trap building, and the dining hall renovation.  There’s still lots of little things to do before the staff and campers arrive, but now we can cross one more off of our to-do list…paving the road leading up to Chipp/Chick hill!  Check out the pics below.

the paving begins  Marty hard at work  paving complete

Before any of the questions start, we didn’t pave the entire loop, only that first little bit on Chipp/Chick hill that you see in the above pics.

Now maybe during sock war all you campers who just have to charge down the hill won’t fall and trip as much since the loose gravel won’t be there!

Cabin, Sweet Cabin

Posted by Karah

We realized that it’s been a little while since we’ve done a post about the new cabins, so here you are!  At this point, not much else needs to be done to them in preparation for the summer.  The plumbing in some of the cabins needs to be completed.  Then final inspections and lastly, moving in the beds and other small furniture pieces.  Below are pictures of how they look right now.

So there you have it…this is what will be home, sweet home for some of you this summer!

Let There Be Light!

Posted by Karah

It’s the little things in life that need to be celebrated, in my opinion.  And another little step towards finishing construction has been taken…we now have electricity in the Bear Trap!

Lights in the lobby area Lobby lights

                                             Bathroom lights

Each thing that’s done only brings us closer to summer being here!  It’ll be here before any of us know it!

Adding Character to the Bear Trap

Posted by Sharon

The fixtures are in!  Last week, the crew put in the lights and fans, both inside and out.  They also put in the toilets and sinks in the bathrooms.  Having the lights and fans up add a lot of character!

Hayne and Phil in front of the Bear Trap Hayne and Phil are being crazy as usual!  Hayne and his family live in Black Mountain and help us out with the videos during the summer.  He also does odd jobs around camp during the year.

The construction crew has a few more little things to finish and then they will be able to put in the hardwood floors!  Hopefully within the next week or two!  We’ll keep you posted!

Cabins are almost done

Posted by Karah

You’ve read about the progress on the Bear Trap and the transformed Chey/Choc/Cher hut.  (If you haven’t read those posts, read this one first and then go read those!)  Well, now it’s time to see the progress on the cabins.  Let’s see, where to begin?

1.  Inside walls are up

2.  Light fixtures are in

3.  Showers are installed, as is the tile floor right outside it

4.  Granite sinks (minus the fixtures) are in

5.  Outside has been painted on most of the cabins

The pics below show the inside of the Chipp/Chick hut and the cabins on the other hills.

The video below gives you a 360 audio tour of the Chipp/Chick hut.  What you see in the clip is pretty much what all the new cabins look like on the inside.

I can’t believe how fast the cabins have been done.  It seems like I arrived only yesterday and all that was done so far was the ground had been cleared.  Now the cabins are up and almost ready for all you campers and staff.  It’s only three months from now when some of you will be moving in and experiencing it all for yourself…can you believe it?!?!
